this weekend i visited my parents house. we have two wonderful dogs, which this character is not based on but they were certainly the inspiration behind it.

Extras

This design felt nice for the wise and quiet Mrs. Puffington character but maybe looked to native to be  in London in the 1950's....

so she was redesigned.
Here's a few extra designs from the Bates project. They're mostly roughs testing out chartacter designs and facial expressions.
For a final project in cartooning this year we were given a piece of literature and asked to design some of the characters described. Here's my take on what they might have looked like.... I don't recall the title of the book, but the author is H.E. Bates the time era is based in the 1950's.

Miss Cathcart reminded me of Cruella Deville, mean and in control with an explosive temper. I based the design on this and exaggerated the cheek bones, length of the face and pushed her lips way off to the side of her face for some fun.

I think this drawing turned out to be my favourite in the end, it feels like she's forcing that smile.
